About Us

The Prof. J. J. Ghosh Foundation was conceived after the demise of the great teacher of the Department of Biochemistry, University of Calcutta by his Ph. D. students. Interestingly, Prof. Ghosh was also the first officially appointed faculty of the Department.The objective of forming this foundation was to carry out philanthropic work to fulfill the ideals set by Prof. J. J. Ghosh. It is expected to act as a platform for all students and colleagues of Prof. Ghosh in contributing to the growth and development of the Department of Biochemistry. The mandate set by the foundation is as follows:

1. Financial assistance towards tuition fees of needy, meritorious M.Sc. students of Biochemistry, CU.

2. Memorial medal /cash prize to M.Sc. student of Biochemistry, CU for securing highest marks in Neurobiochemistry.

3. Yearly commemorative lecture by scientist of eminence in the field of Biochemistry / Neuroscience / Biological sciences.

4. Development of collaborative programmes with other academic / research organizations.

5. To contribute financial assistance for erection of

(a) a bust of Prof. Ghosh in the Biochemistry Dept., CU

(b) one class room (with modern infrastructural facilities) of the Dept. of Biochemistry, CU, dedicated to his memory.

Other programs will continue as Development Support Initiatives.

GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE

The foundation was formed under the Society of Registration Act of the Government of West Bengal. It is run as a society having the following Executive Committee members. The tenure of the first E.C. is for one year and for subsequent E.Cs. for three years. The present E.C. consists of the following members:
